Testimonials
Musoni wants to help people make their dreams come true.
Over the past two years, we have met many Kenyan entrepreneurs who do not have the opportunity to grow their lives and businesses. Thanks to our award winning system, we have been able to help thousands.

Please take a moment to read about and watch videos of our clients to see how Musoni has changed their lives. The videos were taken by our loan officers in the field and so are mostly in Swahili. Even if you do not speak Swahili, hopefully they give you an idea of the type of businesses Musoni, and you support.

Faith Obuya Awour,

Faith, 27 years old, runs a joint M-PESA and cosmetics business. In her spare time she looks after her younger brother. Living in Huruma, where 80% of the residents are engaged in small scale businesses, she noticed that there were few financial service providers. This led Faith to open up an M-PESA shop, after getting a grant from a friend. The M-PESA shop requires a permanent cash float to continue operating.

Thanks to a Ksh. 15,000 loan from Musoni, Faith is able to keep her M-PESA business running, while her cosmetics business has, in the last six months, been able to grow its stock by over 10 times.

Faith explained:

”Musoni has helped me not only with a loan that helped me maintain a stable float hence a sharp increase in my transactions, but also with sufficient business skills and knowledge that I never had. I’ve developed consistence in my record keeping, I’ve learnt to sustain profit making through thorough scrutiny of my expenses and I’ve majorly learnt that my business is my employer so I just get paid by it. I harvest the equivalent of what I sow, and Musoni waters my business!”

"I think Musoni is the right place to be at this point in time when financial services are increasingly getting expensive".

Catharine Ouma Omondi

Catherine, 37 years old, is a mother of three and the Chairperson of Gifted Self Help, one of the groups that Musoni lends to. The group formed as a merry-go-round, where members contribute a small amount each week and give the total to a single member of the group.

Catherine commented, “My husband used to struggle so much meeting our daily needs including house rent and school fees. It was terrible. Then he decided to squeeze some savings for me. I took my merry-go-round money and bought a sewing machine to repair the clothes of my neighbors. That is how I started”

Catherine is now servicing her 3rd loan of Ksh. 80,000 and her tailoring and design business is booming. A clear growth plan and a focus on customer care, skills acquired through Musoni trainings, have ensured a steady supply of customers to her business. Musoni’s readily available and affordable loans have made it easier for her to deliver her orders on time as “I’m no longer credit constrained”.

“These Musoni loans have enabled me to improve my credit worthiness because my repayment record has always been 100% due to the fact that M-PESA allows me to pay at any time and any place. Immediately I get some money, I pay because I always want to clear my loan. And interestingly, Musoni would remind me when my repayment is due (Musoni uses SMS campaigns to inform clients when their loan are due). I just like the Musoni idea! I can’t imagine where I have reached when I look backwards from where I was just a few months ago.”

George Wanjohi

George Wanjohi is a father of 2 and the chairman of Mwagithu Self Help Group. He supplies confectionery to retailors in Githurai, a highly populated township close to Musoni’s Zimmerman branch. He is currently servicing his third loan of Ksh. 30,000.

“Initially I used to take my stock from bakeries on credit. It was very difficult for me because when I didn’t sell well I would go back to my pocket to pay for the supplies. When I got my first loan, I managed to buy enough stock and supplied my clients. It ensured a steady flow and I gained a lot of confidence among my clients.

The second loan helped me buy a bicycle that has been of great convenience for my business. I used my third loan to purchase a motorbike which enables me to supply far and wide.

Musoni has helped me be firm in business. “Imenisimamisha sana” (it has uplifted me) and has educated my children. Most importantly, I have become self-reliant.

Mkopo unaingia mahali popote ulipo na pia pesa unaweza tegemea kwa sababu haifail”. I testify that Musoni has a lot of help. Musoni will make you self-reliant. Their loans are timely”.

Samuel Gitau

Samuel Gitau is a 25-year-old entrepreneur. He is a father of two and runs a boda boda business. He is currently servicing his second loan of 35,000.

“My dream was to own a motorbike. Thanks to Musoni, I was convinced and actually my dream has come to pass. I saved painfully but at the end managed to purchase my motorbike. I’m now self-employed and I do not depend on casual labor like before. In fact, I used to be hired to ride a boda boda and I thought I was being misused because I only got very little as my pay.

Sasa maisha ni mzuri na nipanda class kidogo. (Now life is good and I have moved up to a ladder).

Joash Otinga

Joash Otinga is a member of Zimmerman quarry self help group. A group whose members engage in mining stones for construction. He is 36 years old and lives in Githurai 44 with his family of 4.

“I just mine stones here in Zimmerman. I’m happy because my first loan was just Ksh. 5,000. This loan transformed my life. Before I was just hired by my colleagues to mine for them, because I could not afford to hire my own hole. When I took the money, I paid the owner of the land and he gave me a place to mine. When I hired the hole, I hired a few people who have been mining the stones for me. My work is to help when necessary but my key responsibility is to get customers by looking for people in building the industry. I used to make an average Ksh. 350 a day but nowadays I make up to Ksh. 1,000. This is a change of fortune that has seen my wife stop working as a housewife which earned her a salary of Ksh. 1,500 a month. She has started her own small business. In fact, very soon she will be coming for a loan from Musoni to improve her business!

So far I have started paying for my small plot and wish to build my home in the next one or two years.”
